I am one of the 'unemployed masses'. I worked for the same company for over 23 1/2 years. They were purchased by a World-wide corporation who moved the accounting functions to their main office in Bridgeton, Mo.
I worked for six weeks for a company - I really enjoyed the work. I looked forward to going there every day and hoped that I would be hired full-time. Unfortunately this did not happen. I believe that God has a plan for my life and I continue to trust in Him and search for the job he wants me to do.
In Sept. 2009, I went to college (Des Moines Area Community College) to get a certificate in Human Resource Management. After not getting anywhere in finding employment, I went back to DMACC in Sept. 2010 where I am working towards a certificate in Medical Transcription. I have just completed the first two of three semesters required for this course of study. I was also able to complete courses in computer accounting (Peachtree & Quikbooks), word processing I and II, and have finished a course in Payroll Accounting.
By the time I have finished with this training (Aug. 2011) I will be able to do almost anything in an office. Hopefully I will be able to find employment quickly. Until then it is study, study, study, and do embroidery on the side to help make ends meet.
The past two summers I earned income by baking cookies, cakes, and snacks that I sold at five different Farmer's Markets weekly. This kept me very busy baking every day to have items to sell for the next day. At the end of summer I began selling baked goods and treats at a Retirement Home in Des Moines. I really enjoy seeing and visiting with these wonderful seniors every week. I know that they enjoy my baking! They look forward to Wednesday every week. I am in the process of going to some other retirement homes to see if I can add one or two more days each week.
I have been unable to find a permanent job or even a temporary job. As I didn't even get interviews from my job searches, I wondered if it was my age that was the reason; perhaps they didn't want to train somebody my age???; or perhaps God wants me to do what I am doing now?In order to pay my bills I applied for early retirement. To supplement that income I am doing the bake sales, and also a once a month a two-day weekend sale at Southridge Mall (usually 2nd weekend of the month). GOD has been really good to me! He has kept His promise to me - that if I only believe and trust - HE will provide. He proves this to me every day.
I am very thankful to God who is always there for me - who provides for all my needs - as long as I just trust in Him and do my part (by working). What a wonderful Creator we have. I am also very thankful for my friends who have given me wonderful support.
Thank you for visiting my site and God Bless you all!
